What a fantastic trip to Harry Potter World with our Year 7's! The day was filled with magic and wonder, as they entered the fictional universe. The snow edition has really got us in the mood for winter at HGAED!

Today marks the last day of Anti-Bullying Week, and we’re learning how to recognise when someone might be experiencing bullying. Look out for changes in mood, behaviour, confidence, or friendships and always speak to a trusted adult if you’re worried about someone.

The Careerometer

The Careerometer below can be used to explore and compare key information about occupations to support the process of identifying potential careers. The Careerometer provides access to a selection of headline data relating to pay, weekly hours of work and future employment prospects.

Simply type in the title of the job you are interested in and the widget provides a series of options from which you can select the most relevant to you.


Useful websites for students

Careers & Enterprise Company 

The Careers & Enterprise Company brokers links between employers, schools and colleges in order to ensure that young people aged 12-18 get the inspiration and guidance they need for success in working life. 

National Careers Service 

The National Careers Service provides information, advice and guidance to help people make decisions on learning, training and work opportunities. The service offers confidential and impartial advice. 

Baker Dearing Educational Trust 

Provides information on University Technical Colleges. 

Career Development Institute 

The Career Development Institute is the single UK-wide professional body for everyone working in the fields of careers education, career information, advice and guidance, career coaching, career consultancy and career management. It offers affiliate and individual membership to schools which includes free CPD webinars, regular digital newsletters, a quarterly magazine, online networking groups and training at a preferential rate. 

Quality in Careers Standard 

The Quality in Careers Standard in the national quality award for careers education, information, advice and guidance. 

Find an Apprenticeship 

Search and apply for an apprenticeship in England. 

Amazing Apprenticeships 

To learn more about apprenticeships, T Levels (a new careers-focused alternative to A-levels) and traineeships and search for opportunities.

LMI for All 

An online data portal, which connects and standardises existing sources of high quality, reliable labour market information (LMI) with the aim of informing careers decisions. This data is made freely available via an Application Programming Interface (API) for use in websites and applications. 

STEM Ambassadors 

A nationwide network of over 30,000 volunteers from a wide range of employers, who engage with young people to provide stimulating and inspirational informal learning activities in both school and non-school settings 

Sutton Schools Trust 

The Sutton Trust run a range of programmes for students aged 11-16 through our university partners across the UK. Have a look at what we’ve got on offer today.

Southwark Education Business Alliance 

Southwark Education Business Alliance brings together schools and business across the London borough of Southwark, working together for mutual gain. Local opportunities for traineeships, apprenticeships, studies and employment are shared by Southwark Council weekly.

Uni Taster Days 

UniTasterDays provides a fantastic opportunity for students to regularly experience a wide variety of university courses and gain an insight into university life and career opportunities. We use this site to plan 'discover events' to expose students to a range of further studies, personal statement writing support and student finance information.

Unistats 

The official website for comparing UK higher education undergraduate course data. The site includes information on university and college courses, Teaching Excellence and Student Outcomes Framework (TEF) ratings, student satisfaction scores from the National Student Survey, employment outcomes and salaries after study and other key information for prospective students.

UCAS connects people to university, post uni studies including teacher training, apprenticeships and internships. Find all the information for your next step.

Unifrog  

Unifrog is the complete destinations platform – a one-stop-shop for students across KS3, KS4 and KS5 regardless of their interests or academic ability. It is the only place where students can compare every university course, apprenticeship and FE course in the UK as well as university in 30 other countries across the world. This is alongside getting access to labour market information and advice on careers and subjects for all routes.

Barclays Life Skills  

LifeSkills, created with Barclays, helps young people get the skills and experiences they need to enter the world of work.

Careers Map

For school leavers. Search and apply for apprenticeships and  work experience. The career mag is a great resource with editions for students and parents/carers.

Harris Experience 

Harris Experience is a cultural and academic enhancement programme for our most able secondary school students across the Harris Federation in the lower school year 9-11 and advanced year 12-13. The programme spans over three years for each cohort. During that time, they broaden the cultural and academic experiences of some of our most able secondary students in the Harris Federation, to give them outstanding preparation for some of the country’s top university destinations.

Higher education opportunities

to download the Harris Higher Education Programme Booklet, which is written for Year 11 students, parents and the wider family as well as tutors and staff.
