Students Achieve Best Ever GCSE Results
Students at Harris Girls' Academy East Dulwich are celebrating their best ever GCSE results, with 75% gaining five or more passes at grades A*-C, including English and Maths.
There were strong performances across the board, with a high percentage of students achieving A*-C grades in a wide range of subjects including:
- English Language (81%)
- English Literature (80%)
- Physics (100%)
- Chemistry (100%)
- Biology (100%)
- Maths (81%)
- Art & Design (Fine Art) (100%)
- French (100%)
- Geography (81%)
- History (87%)
- Music (100%)
- Psychology (95%)
- RE (87%)

“Fantastic work ethic”
"We are delighted with these results, which show what can be achieved with a fantastic work ethic and determination to succeed," said Principal Jane Fletcher.
Head of Science Tom Grocott, said he was “elated” at the results, which saw 100% of Physics, Chemistry and Biology students achieving grades A*-C.
Head of English Craig Jackson was also delighted that 81% and 80% achieved A*-C grades in English Language and English Literature respectively. “The students worked really hard at their exam preparation and the results speak for themselves,” he said.

- Jabin (A* x 2, A x 9, B x 2)
Many more students achieved passes at top grades too.
What students say
“I’m really please with my results because I worked really hard,” said Amtul, (12 A* or A grades), pictured right. Amtul’s dad, Rahim, admitted to being “overwhelmed” by his daughter’s success. “It’s a fantastic school, with fantastic teachers and has been an amazing five years for my daughter, I couldn’t have asked for anything more,” he said.
Erum (8 A* grades), who is going on to study Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Maths at A Level, said: “I’m still really happy to have done so well.”
Rhianna (10 A or B grades) put her success down to all the times she came to school early for extra revision lessons or stayed late too. “We often stayed at school until 5pm to get things done,” she said. “We knew it was time to get working really hard if we wanted to do well.”
Lamya (11 A* or A grades) said she was particularly pleased with her A* grades in History and Maths. “I worked really hard and attended every revision session,” she said. “If I was struggling I went to the teacher and revised with friends too.” Lamya got full marks in one of her history exams.
“Students understand that education matters”
“This is an aspirational group of students who understand that education matters and is serious about doing well,” said Jane Fletcher. “It shows what can be achieved when students really want success. That’s what I’ll be stressing to every student lower down the school. Our staff are exceptional and will never give up – never stop pushing students to achieve more than they think they can – but ultimately students have to want it too and, when they do, you get results like this. It shows what can be achieved.”
Year 10 students who took selected GCSEs early also did exceptionally well, with everyone passing with grades A*-C.
