Uganda Farmers' Association Receives Goats, Chickens and Turkeys
We've just received these lovely pictures from the Kameruka Twegaitte Farmers' Association, showing members with the goats, chickens and turkeys that have been bought with money raised by our students.
Pictured below are Namajja Susan and Mubule Rajjabu with the goats they now have.
The group started in 2012 with only a few members who wanted to improve the livelihood of the community through improved vegetable and banana growing using organic manure. Our school has already raised money for wheelbarrows for the group, which are shared by everyone, and has now also been able to provide animals too.
Kibuta Erizefani says has used the wheelbarrow "for household chores, and allowed the neighbouring households to use it to fetch water from wells and firewood." Susan Namajja said as well as using the barrow herself neighbours had used it to "carry construction materials, and raw materials for make organic manure to grow banana and vegetables."
Now goats, turkeys and chickens have been given to 20 local farmers, who will use them for milk, eggs and to breed new animals too, which can then be passed to other farmers.
