Big Red Box & Write for Rights - Please Support
This year, 暗网AV is supporting both a local charity and an international charity, with a focus on developing 'conscience', which is one of our academy's key values. Please could you support both our campaigns.
The Big Red Box Campaign
The is collecting food for special Christmas parcels for families in need across South East London. Please support the campaign by bringing in one or more items of food from the following list by 11th December: pasta, pasta sauces, rice, tinned meat, vegetables (tinned), tomatoes (tinned), soup, jam, rice pudding (tinned), custard (tinned or instant), tinned fruit, biscuits, mince pies, Christmas pudding, kids' Christmas chocolates, cereal, fruit juice (carton), sugar, tea/coffee and milk (UHT).
Please leave donations of food in the conference room right by reception by 11 December and it will be collected by Big Red Box campaign workers for distribution to local families. Please be as generous as you can. It is a special time of year for many families and it would be wonderful to help families celebrate the holiday season with some lovely food.
Amnesty International Write for Rights Campaign
Last year, students at HGAED wrote over 300 letters to governments and human rights defenders all over the world as part of the Amnesty International campaign. This year, we have focused so far on the cases of:
- Seyi Akiwowo, a UK human rights defender who defends the rights of women to express themselves on social media without fear of threats and abuse.
- Marielle Franco, a Brazilian human rights activist who was assassinated in March of this year allegedly with police involvement. .
We’ve shared their stories and would now like to urge you to get involved too by writing two letters: one to the government of the country involved and one to the human rights defender or their family as a message of solidarity. Click on the 'How you can help' links above for details of how to send your letters.
We really believe that words are powerful and that we can make a difference. Last year, over five million actions were carried out around the world as part of this massive campaign. It might feel like ‘just one letter’ to you, but the many million letters that are sent each year make an enormous difference to these individuals and do put pressure on governments to address human rights abuses.
We recognise and are thankful that many of us have wonderful homes and we are safe and happy, but others in our local community and in communities around the world are sometimes not as fortunate as we are.
