International Women’s Day Celebrations - Report & Pictures

On Wednesday 8th of March, °µÍøAV celebrated International Women's Day. We were proud to see our students support the day and stand up for change.

The celebrations were the culmination of a series of PSHE events and workshops all of which aimed to highlight the core theme of equity and equality central to the 2023 international movement.

Students had the opportunity to dress in ‘business wear’ (pictured below) and show their solidarity to the movement by donating to our chosen charity and raising awareness of the movement.

Every lesson during the day promoted hidden female figures within their subjects, enabling students to learn about these women. During break time and lunch, students also organised and ran a bake sale with the proceeds going towards the charity selected.

An all-female TSG (Territorial Support Group) van and crew were also on hand, with students able to ask questions and even climb into their van and use the equipment!

Career workshops

In the last period of the day, students in Years 9 and 10 had the opportunity to attend a workshop of their choice which outlined the career they were interested in, the path towards this career, what the job entails and a short task to complete.

Companies/industries attending the event ranged from the Actuarial Society, HM Treasury, electrical engineering, PWC, JAA media (advertising agency), TP Bennett architectural firm, Multiplex construction, brokerage, physician, tax associate, quantity surveying, sports therapy, MET police, Mace construction, doctor, accounting and finance, and registered nutritionist.

Both the students and professionals who came in tremendously enjoyed the sessions and commented on how successful the day had been. We would also like to thank all the companies and individuals that visited us and passed on their passion to the students.

The Met Police Task Force said: “We genuinely had a lovely time speaking to the girls at the school. They were inquisitive, engaging and had a lovely sense of humour. I hope our presence yesterday may have made some difference to the future they are considering.”
