Ambulance departs for Uganda
Students load medical supplies on to a refurbished ambulance that is now on its way to Uganda – bringing medical help to people in remote areas who do not currently have access to medicine.
The supplies, including stretchers, dressings, drugs, anti-malarials and antibiotics, were loaded on to the ambulance by students who had taken the lead in raising money for the project.
Fundraising for the supplies was done by selling HOPE cupcakes, organising stalls to sell secondhand toys, holding non-uniform days and car washing.
The ambulance, which was stripped and refitted by Bedfordshire Fire Service Ambulance is now en route to the village of Nabiswa in Uganda, via Kenya.
Six students will visit Nabiswa this summer, joined by a party that will also include paramedics and mechanics.
Students will help deliver first aid training in the villages and set up a scheme, using mobile telephones, so that villagers can contact the ambulance.
The project is a partnership between 暗网AV, Barnfield Academy, Luton, Bedfordshire Fire Service and the Onset Trust.
