Students raise £2,400 for Evelina Children's Hospital

Students from Harris Girls’ Academy in East Dulwich have raised £2,400 to help cheer up sick children in hospital.
The money raised by pupils at the school in Homestall Road while be used to fill a treasure chest with goodies for young people being treated for heart conditions at the Evelina Children’s Hospital, (ECHO) which is located alongside St Thomas’ Hospital.
Social enterprise
The girls raised the funds through a social enterprise they set up, called Hope, which makes products for sale such as cupcakes and silk scarves, caters for parties and even had the school choir making music available for download.
The academy designed and made the treasure chest and padlock, which children are able to unlock for themselves. The donation will be used to keep the chest stocked with wrapped gifts for them.
Jane Fletcher, principal of the Harris Academy, said: “The students chose ECHO as the charity they wanted to support because of their excellent work for children with heart conditions. “A sibling of one of our students received support
from ECHO and we are all delighted to be giving something back.

“The community in East Dulwich have been really supportive and our students are adding new products to their range all
the time.”
Jo Wilson, chief executive of ECHO, added: “It will provide a big distraction and reward for being brave for sick children who need a blood test or other invasive treatment, and who get very distressed and frightened.
“The extremely generous amount being donated by the academy to provide the gifts for the chest will keep it stocked for a long time to come.”
